Personal Response #1
Ripple is my first best friend in my life. She comes from Shanghai which is the biggest city in China and is the same age as me. We met for the first time by chance. At that time, I was in Grade 4 in elementary school in Xi'an, and went to Shanghai to visit my grandparents with my parents during my summer vacation. Every year, it was a convention for the resident in my grandparents' community to hold an outdoor party, on which most of the performances were prepared by themselves, to enjoy the cool summer night together. I finished my study early that day and was looking forward to getting candies on that party. Ripple presided over the party, representing all the kids. I was attracted by her humorous and friendly attitude on the performances and tried to talk to her after the party with my younger cousin, 9 years old. We discovered that we had a lot in common and became good friends soon. We three spent plenty of time playing together and met almost everyday in that vacation. When the new semester began, we all felt it was a great pity that I had to go back to Xi'an. But we kept on writing to each other till now, and could always meet again on the "Cool Summer Night Party" every year though we never tried to make appointment before. It was fate that introduced us to one another, and sharing many same attributes that made us become best friends. Besides, she was so intelligent, hard-working and had outstanding academic level, that I learnt a lot from her too. Nowadays, we have both grown up. She is in Malaysia, studying in a famous college. She decided to go there alone before she finished her high school in China, so I was a little surprised by her such a decision. But I learnt more about her: self-confident, independent, decisive and full of courage to develop her own future. Though we are so far away now, our hearts are close.
